Who is Mindful Maps?

Emily Wilkinson, Artist and Founder of Mindful Maps.

Hi there, I’m Emily and my passion is nurturing creative learning and wellbeing for conscious futures. Whilst helping others navigate their journeys through Mindful Maps, I also practice as an interdisciplinary artist.

My background is in image-making, illustration and visual communication, in which I have almost 10 years’ experience. After completing the MA Design Futures programme at Goldsmiths my practice took a new direction, looking at how practice and everyday life are interfaces for positive change. I am constantly exploring ways we can creatively sustain our ability to respond to our environments, others and ourselves.

In 2011 I started meditating which changed my life. Since then I have been interested in how combining creativity and mindfulness can lead to authentic transformation.

Through Mindful Maps I collaborate, teach and play with a range of groups and individuals. You can see a list of people I’ve worked with here. Sometimes I go solo, at other times I partner with people from the Mindful Maps community to form a project team.  To collaborate please get in touch on info@mindfulmaps. I look forward to hearing from you :)

Partners

Auralab

Laura Sorvala is a designer, illustrator and facilitator based in Cardiff. Together we co-founded the Come To Your Senses project and continue to support each other in our similar and complimentary practices. We can partner for bigger visualisation or mapping projects.

Ivan Nascimento

Ivan is a designer and illustrator with over 10 years of professional experience delivering successful visual communication strategies for the private and third sectors. Ivan ran his own Visual Communications consultancy in Venezuela, and was a professor of Experimental Illustration in Prodiseño. His Masters from Goldsmiths University investigated how to communicate a more coherent and non- stereotyped image of poverty in an increasingly saturated ethical visual context. Ivan currently works for the charity CAFOD, where he constantly explores novel ways to reduce the communicational gaps between beneficiaries and supporters.

Community

Yvonne Field

Yvonne Field has over 20 years’ experience of working in community, education and health services with children, young people and black and ethnic minority communities. She is a regular collaborator and mentor to Mindful Maps. Currently Yvonne is setting up The Ubele Initiative, the progress of which Mindful Maps has been visually documenting. Yvonne is a valued mentor and supporter.

Metadesigners Open Network
Could ‘design thinking’ save the world? Maybe, but first we need to re-design design. This ‘positive thinking’ Metadesigners Open Network invites everyone to co-imagine a global paradigm shift that restores ecological diversity.

The Glass-House
The Glass-House is a national charity working to help people make better buildings, spaces, homes and neighbourhoods. Mindful Maps has recently been accepted to become one of the Glass-House’s Enablers. More to come!

A-N

Through advocacy and information and from the perspective of artists, a-n’s mission is to stimulate and support contemporary visual arts practice and affirm the value of artists in society. Mindful Maps joined earlier this year.

MA Design Futures
The MA in Design Futures at Goldsmiths aims to broaden and deepen understanding of design practice in its full context, introducing deep ethical and ecological perspectives into the design agenda. Students are encouraged to challenge the existing boundaries and purposes of design as both a professional discipline and creative practice. I studied Design Futures in 2008-9 and continue to be a visiting lecturer and friend of the programme.
